It is unfortunate and distressing when a child is born with
complications. It is especially unfortunate when we learn that
the attending medical personnel could have prevented the
complication. Almost five thousand children a year suffer from
Brachial Plexus Palsy, typically referred to as Erb's Palsy.
Traumatic stretching of the infant’s plexus during birth causes
Ninety percent of Erb's Palsy injuries.
Erb's Palsy, often spelled Erb's Palsy, was named after Dr.
Wilhelm Heinrich Erb, a German neurologist. Dr. Erb uncovered
the most common injury that causes Brachial Plexus Palsy, damage
of the nerves present in the vertebrae. As a result of this
nerve injury, paralysis may occur in some children. Others may
suffer a lack of muscle control or feeling in the arms or hands.
The majority of Erb's Palsy cases occur during birth.
Erb's Palsy is difficult to diagnose. However, certain factors
